Honor has formally unveiled the Magic V5, their newest foldable smartphone, which they say is the thinnest foldable phone available right now. The device was unveiled at a special event in China, and the company has confirmed that a worldwide launch is imminent.

With a folded thickness of only 8.8 mm, the Magic V5 outperforms the Oppo Find N5, which has an 8.9 mm thickness. The Magic V5's slightly curved frame makes it feel sleeker in the hand, even though the difference is slight. This is especially true of the Ivory White model, which has a unique fiber-coated exterior. The vegan leather or regular fiber materials used to make the other color options are a tad thicker at 9 mm.

Despite this accomplishment, the phone's claim to be the "thinnest foldable" in the world has generated some controversy because of its noticeable triple rear camera bump, which makes the device appear thicker in the hand. The addition of faster aperture lenses and high-resolution sensors, however, may make the bump justified.

Once again surpassing Oppo's 4.2 mm, the Magic V5's frame only measures 4.1 mm when unfolded. However, it is still below the thinnest point of the Huawei Mate X3, which is only 3.6

Notably, before Oppo took the title earlier this year, Honor had the "thinnest foldable" title with its Magic V3. According to leaks, Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is scheduled for release next week, will be thinner than its predecessor but might not be as thin as the Magic V5.

At 217 grams, the Magic V5 is comparable to the newly released Vivo X Fold 5 and might be one of the lightest foldables.

The device's hardware consists of a large 5820 mAh battery, up to 16 GB of RAM, and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.

Its two 120 Hz refresh rate LTPO OLED screens, wireless charging capability, and IP58 and IP59 dust and water resistance certifications place it in the flagship category for durability.

Last but not least, the Magic V5 from Honor has material finishes that vary by color and starts at $1,250. The other models use different materials, and only the Ivory White model has the distinctive fiber exterior.
