Google resumes rolling out the "Ask Images" feature after performance and speed improvements.

Google announced the resumption of the "Ask Photos" feature powered by artificial intelligence in the Google Photos app, following significant improvements in response speed and result quality, in response to user complaints about slow performance and inaccurate answers.

Google first introduced the feature during the Google I/O developer conference last year, allowing users to search within their photo library using natural language queries, leveraging the capabilities of the Gemini model to understand image content and metadata.

Many users pointed out that the feature's performance was not reliable, as it was delayed in providing results during the AI search, prompting the company to temporarily halt the rollout earlier in June.

The director of Google Photos, Jamie Aspinall, said in a post on the X platform: "Ask Photos is not up to the required level in terms of response speed, result quality, and user experience," noting that Google is working to restore the speed and accuracy of classic search to the new feature.

The company explained that it has integrated classic search functions into the "Ask Photos" feature, especially for simple searches like "beach" or "dogs," allowing results to appear faster than they did before.

AI technologies are now working in the background to process the most complex inquiries and provide more relevant images with explanatory captions. For example, when searching for "white dog," immediate preliminary results appear, followed by a deeper analysis from AI that includes additional information, such as the name of the animal and the date it appeared in the images.

The interface still allows users to switch to classic search mode if they wish to do so. After these improvements, Google confirmed the gradual rollout of the "Ask Photos" feature to users in the United States.

It is required to use the feature that the user is 18 years old or older, and that the default language of the account is English, with the "Face Groups" feature activated, which is used to classify people and pets in the photo library.
