Google launches the Doppl app to try on clothes virtually without leaving home.
Google has unveiled a new application called Doppl through its experimental division, Google Labs. This app allows users to virtually try on clothes using a digital avatar that represents them, enabling them to imagine how they would look in the chosen outfit without needing to go to stores.
The Doppl app relies on the "virtual try-on" features that Google announced during the Google I/O developer conference this year as part of its Google Shopping service, which allowed users to virtually try on billions of clothing items by uploading a personal photo. However, the new app adds more capabilities, such as using photos or screenshots to try on fashion items.
The application converts still images into AI-generated videos with visual effects to give the user a better idea of how the clothes move and look. These clips can also be shared with friends to get their opinions.
Google said in a statement, "With Doppl, you can try any look you want, whether you saw an outfit you liked on a friend, in a thrift store, or on social media; just upload a picture of it on Doppl to imagine how it would look on you."
However, the company clarified that the application is still in the experimental stage, and the results may not be entirely accurate in terms of measurements, details, or the actual appearance of the clothes.
The Doppl app is currently available for Android and iOS users in the United States, with no official announcement yet regarding its launch in other markets. The application requires uploading a full-body photo (non-nude).
This application comes as part of Google's efforts to enhance shopping experiences based on artificial intelligence. The company has previously added multiple features in the "AI Mode" in the search engine, including browsing options, improving product search results, and even providing an automated shopping experience that allows for price tracking, color and size selection, and completing the purchase within the user's budget.
And it is possible that Doppl could become an ideal choice for those who do not prefer shopping trips or direct interactions with sellers.
